Raffle Ticket sales: just the basic facts.

You can turn your prize draw into a complicated and multi-layered affair, or you can keep it simple. If you fancy an easy, breezy fundraiser that fills your coffers without filling your time, it’s time to get back to the basics. What do you need to hold a successful prize draw? Interesting prizes, effective Raffle Tickets, supporters to buy them, and a distribution method to sell them.

Prizes: You know your supporters best. They may be willing to take a 50 p chance on a small prize: a new football, for instance, or a skein of yarn, or a gift certificate to a popular independent book shop. Perhaps they will pay money to gamble on the possibility of a free lunch with someone in your organisation, or a lesson on something your administration may teach.

Raffle Tickets: So easy to print online! You choose the perfect design, enter your event details into a ticket template, and click on a few buttons. Your Raffle Tickets are professionally printed, with perforated stubs, lines to collect customer information, individual numbering, and other security features.

Supporters: Get the word out, in your print or email newsletter, on websites and web forums, at local meetings and other brick-and-mortar events, through local media, and with printed Posters or Fliers. Don’t forget phone trees, word of mouth, and door to door sales.

Distribution: Take advantage of one of many online sites that sell Raffle Tickets for you. If you already have a sales team, offer them extra prizes and let them do their job. Or, incentivise small children with appropriate rewards and let them sell. Sell Raffle Tickets on your own website, at meetings, or at summer festivals. Wherever people are, that’s where you should be selling Raffle Tickets.

Selling Raffle Tickets? Sell more with matching Poster and Flyer to advertise your prize draw.

If low ticket sales have gotten you down, don’t give up! You can always sell more Raffle Tickets. You simply need to cast a wider net and reach a larger audience. How are you making the public aware of your organisation and the fabulous prizes you have to offer? Have you kept the news within a narrow circle, alerting only those who belong to the group, along, perhaps, with some family, friends, and neighbors?

Why not reach your entire community with some properly places print ads?

In many cases, you can inexpensively print Posters and Flyers with the same design as your favourite Raffle Ticket, and in many cases, these advertisements allow you to upload your own images. You can provide your sponsors with additional exposure, or add photographs of the prizes, or even honour men and women in your organisation by uploading .JPGs or other visual files right from your computer’s hard drive.

Sophisticated, lovely, or playful, there is a proper Poster for all of your prize draws. It’s simple to choose a matching design when you print your Raffle Tickets. You can print your Posters at the same time. You can also choose a different design, which may be brighter, more colourful, or more eye-catching than your Raffle Tickets.

Use your Poster or Flyer to include all the relevant information about your prize draw. You’ll have ample space to describe the organisation, the specific cause toward which the money will go, the prizes to be won, along with the date, time, and location of the draw. Of course, you will want to highlight where and how potential customers can purchase Raffle Tickets. Then hang your Posters where they are likely to see them: in shops, near bus benches, and anywhere else it is allowed.

Did you know that you can use a small raffle to circumvent alcohol licensing laws throughout the United Kingdom? While both the sale of intoxicating libations and the sale of Raffle Tickets are heavily overseen throughout the country, when done correctly, you can combine these two delightful concepts into an event in which you make money through alcohol sales (in a roundabout way) and your guests get to put a few drinks in them, for a good cause.

Recall, of course, that you do not require government oversight for a small prize draw held in a confined location amongst a particular group of people: those who patronise a particular shop or pub on a certain day, or employees of a small business. You can sell Raffle Tickets to your particular group, at a particular time, in a particular venue, without going through the Gaming Commission. Do be sure to read up on the rules and ascertain whether your prize draw falls into the proper categories before you decide to forgo a visit to the Commission.

As you know, it is illegal to sell alcohol without a licence. It is not, however, illegal to offer alcohol as a prize in a contest! Therefore, you can earn money at a charity event by selling Raffle Tickets and offering drinks as prizes.

Some offer a single drink as a prize, which means you can offer many prizes and draw out the suspense. Or, you could help everyone get their drinks more quickly by using bottles as prizes. In theory, the winner would pour out draughts for each of their friends and the evening’s festivities can get underway with greater haste.

Consider your guests. Would they prefer an evening of drinking to another kind of entertainment? Whether they genuinely want to help your cause, or simply show up for a beer, selling alcohol Raffle Tickets can help turn your dry and dusty event into a rousing success!

Perhaps you’re a member of an environmental organisation, or perhaps you simply love Mother Earth and want to do all you can to preserve her sweetness for future generations. How can you reduce your prize draw’s footprint and communicate your values?

Prizes

The easiest way to show your supporters that you care is to offer them prizes that offer a solution. Perhaps you can find a company willing to donate some solar panels in exchange for a great deal of publicity if you’re holding a large raffle and expect to attract many donors. Or, for smaller prize draws, perhaps a simple compost bin, or a homemade solar oven. Ask a contractor to offer his or her services evaluating a home for energy efficiency.

Printing

Choose Raffle Tickets printed on recycled paper, or ensure that used Raffle Tickets will be recycled later. Find a printing company that uses environmentally sustainable processes such as recycling used printer cartridges, depending on alternative energy sources, and relying on environmentally friendly shipping companies.

Publicity

The Internet is quite green; it takes very little energy, especially if you’re using a newer computer. While you may not want to forgo traditional print publicity entirely, use all your online resources for the best coverage and promotion. Send email newsletter, post links to forums, and spread the word with social networking. Be sure to scan all your posters and upload the images. Put your website to work!

I can’t believe I missed this one! I’m going to resist the urge to weigh in and simply report the news. Apparently, in March, a group raffled off a human egg. This was an enormously controversial move, not only because trafficking in human genetic material is a moral grey area at best, but also because the very terms of the raffle violate UK gaming laws. To circumvent this quandary, the treatment will be provided in America.

I’m not certain how much they were selling individual Raffle Tickets for, but the value of the prize is placed at £13,000. This covers not only the egg from a healthy female donor (the winner can choose a donor who looks like her, or choose based on the donor’s racial background, upbringing, and education) but also the cost of the IVF treatment needed to fertilise the egg with the male genetic material of ones choose and the implantation of the embryo into the uterus.

The company’s idea was to sell Raffle Tickets in order to promote their new service: Baby Profiling. It was a joint venture between a London fertility clinic called Bridge Centre, and and American group, the Genetics and IVF Institute (GIVF) in Fairfax, Virginia.

No matter how you break it down, this prize draw helped the group reach its goals. Not only did they earn money selling Raffle Tickets, they garnered a remarkable amount of publicity, a great deal of it free. Yes, much of the publicity was controversial, but I would argue that those who decry this prize draw are not potential clients to begin with. Their outrage, however, has allowed a greater number of potential clients to become aware of the clinic, as well as the technology.

It may surprise you to learn that the most attractive prize one can offer in a prize draw is a holiday getaway. It surprised me to learn, anyway, as a new telly lasts a lot longer than a trip to Majorca, and a new car can take you on all manner of holidays, but there you have it. If you want to sell more Raffle Tickets, team up with a travel agent, an airline, or a hotel.

Arrange the type of holiday your supporters are most likely to prefer.

For outdoors types, a camping trip

For singles, a resort holiday

For young couples, a romantic spa

For families, a theme park

For elders, a group tour

Use your imagination. Who is likely to buy your Raffle Tickets? Where are they likely to want to go?

If your donors are generous, an all-expenses paid trip to an exotic country across the sea might help you earn more money, but even a few nights in a hotel in London will appeal to those who feel stuck in their village and simply need to get away from it all for a little while. Wherever you can send them, they’ll be happy to go.

The more you can include, the better. Remember, a true holiday will require:

Airfare (or bus fare, or money for petrol)

Hotel or other lodgings

Three meals a day

Some form of entertainment

If you have a choice of locations, think of the extra you can include, such as lift passes for a skiing holiday, theatre tickets in the city, or hour-long massages at an expensive spa.

Then book the trip and start selling more Raffle Tickets.

As the rain drizzles down and the temperatures rise, so do our spirits. The occasional view of the sun does not hurt in the least! And with the spring comes thought of rebirth. Has your organisation succumbed to the winter blues? Why not perk up your membership and your fundraising activities with a fresh coat of paint, so to speak?

Consider adding these tools to your charity arsenal:

A new homepage, or a homepage with an updated look

A new blog, or a makeover for your old blog

An email newsletter keeping member informed

Now is also a lovely time to solicit donations of prizes for this year’s raffles. Let your own search coincide with everyone else’s spring cleaning and you may clean up yourself! Who knows what treasures lurk in the attics or cellars of your supporters? Ask around and you may discover items of real value, available for the asking. Such searches can be quite as much fun as your own home version of Antiques Roadshow.

If you collect a substantial number of old and forgotten gems, consider organising your prize draw around this theme. You may attract an entirely new segment of supporters when you offer old, unusual, or rare objects as prizes for your upcoming raffle. Be sure to add these fabulous prizes to the details when you print your own Raffle Tickets!

I’ve said it before: Kids make the best sales team.

If you’re selling Raffle Tickets, there’s nothing like a pack of adorable moppets prowling the city centre, offering chances at your upcoming prize draw for 50 p. They are simply irresistible to a certain clientele, especially when they’ve memorized their speech about how all contributions will go to build the new youth center, where children like them will receive homework help, athletic training, and encouragement to stay in school and stay off drugs.

It’s true that many children have short attention spans. If you have a number of them at your disposal, you’ll want to keep them motivated. Let them understand how important their work is. Be sure they know how they are helping, who they are helping, and how much you appreciate their help. And then, offer them a reward. Perhaps it’s a reward for the entire group, or for those who meet their sales quota, or only for your top sellers. Any way you arrange, be sure they understand what’s at stake.

Rewards need not set you back any more than a few quid. Most children will willingly work for:

A slice of pizza

Some ice cream

A couple song downloads

The chance to be part of a group

Small toys like collectible trading cards

Posters of pop stars or actors

Funky pencils

T-shirts

Or better yet, ask them what small prize would keep them on track!

If possible, ask for their input when choosing the design. Indeed, if you are not terribly computer literate, that tyke who’s always glued to the screen may be very helpful as you print your own Raffle Tickets online. However you can get them involved, do so.

If children are a part of your charity effort, include them and watch their influence help your organisation take flight!

Spring is nearly upon us, and with the approaching vernal event, we can anticipate those harbingers of March: leprechauns and green beer. And nothing pairs with beer of any colour quite like Raffle Tickets! Whether or not you’re Irish, have access to a source of shamrocks, or enjoy corned beef, you can turn St. Patrick’s Day into a winning moment for your organisation.

Used alone or in conjunction with a big St. Patrick’s Day event, St. Patrick’s Day-themed Raffle Tickets are sure crowd-pleasers. Colourful green Raffle Tickets, or simple black and white printing, with shamrocks, harps, leprechauns, and more help instill an atmosphere of good will and good luck.

Use these tickets in small pub draws, at large parades, or for anything in between. Superior for office prize draws and for clubs, they help your group earn more money. Keep your theme in mind, and remember that drinking helps to loosen the purse strings. You may have a generous donor for your prize draw, but if not, think of small, appropriate prizes for the holiday:

Some volumes of James Joyce

A nice case of stout or lager

An IRFU jersey

Whatever you choose, be sure to accompany it with great fanfare, crowd-pleasing speeches about all the good work your organisation can do with the proceeds from the prize draw, and, of course, a tasty beverage.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

More exciting news from the world of Raffle Tickets, philanthropy, and self improvement! Today’s story comes from Austria where, after a lifetime of hard work, millionaire Karl Rabeder has decided that his fortune and riches have brought him only misery. In pursuit of true happiness, Rabeder has begun raffling off his worldly possessions, including a mansion in the Alps, a home in Provence, a collection of gliders, and his sports car.

The Alpine villa, appraised at £1.4 million, is to be raffled off, with all proceeds goings towards Mr. Rabeder’s own microlending charities, providing small loans to self-employed people in Central and South America. He hopes to sell almost 22,000 Raffle Tickets, with each ticket selling for the equivalent of £87 a piece. Now that’s a chance worth taking!

Eventually, he hopes to achieve true contentment with nothing, having given away his entire fortune. He plans to live a simple existence, in an isolated mountain cabin or perhaps a bedsit in a small town. Karl Rabeder is one man who has certainly learned the value of giving and the happiness that comes from supporting a meaningful charity!

Raffling off ones home is nothing new, but, in this case, purchasing a Raffle Ticket would have a special meaning, given that the proceeds will all go entirely to worthy causes.
