Maximize Your Fundraising with a Raffle

Your big fundraising event is on the calendar. You have the guest list ready, you’ve booked the venue, and you’re considering the menu. So how will you encourage your supporters to donate more money? A fun raffle can spark conversation and raise a ton of money.

If you haven’t done a raffle before, or even if you have, this article can give you some ideas on what you can do. There are more options than you might think, and here are a few things to consider.

Big Ticket or Nice Gift?

Imagine showing up to a fundraising event for your favourite charity and finding out your donation could put you in the running to win a new car that night! That thought alone could generate a lot of excitement – and a lot of money – for your group. It’s also great publicity for the car dealer involved.  Acquiring these big ticket items take a lot of time and work, but if you can manage it, it creates huge buzz around the event.

But most of us can’t offer our donors a car. That’s fine. Asking local businesses for items like wine, art, or gift certificates and offering your supporters a variety of prizes can also generate a lot of donations. And they give the businesses more visibility. Win-win!

Give an Experience

Many people will buy a raffle ticket for the chance to treat themselves! The idea of a holiday rental, a day at the spa, or tickets to a sporting event give supporters the chance to win something that they might not purchase themselves. Be creative when offering an experience. Approach businesses, but also think about volunteers or donors who might not be able to give money, but could offer a service. Maybe a supporter is an expert at resume writing or baking desserts. You might be surprised what your donors will want.

A Chance for More Cash

If you don’t have the time or resources to organise a raffle for items, a 50/50 raffle is an easy option. Half of the money raised goes to the winner; half goes to the charity. Find some energetic and persuasive volunteers to handle this task!

Whatever your raffle experience looks like, the right ticket can be a fun way to remember the event. Customizing your raffle with the event tickets, flyers, and posters can leave a memorable impression of the evening!
